Diving Jobs - Real Life Fun as a SCUBA Divemaster
Posted On Minggu, 20 Januari 2008 at di 13.57 by CemolAre you ready for fun in the sun? Are you ready for a job that people are always jealous of? Working underwater is a great way to live your life. Being a divemaster is the first professional level of diving and is an easy way to get sucked into the best lifestyle ever. Diving jobs are exciting. They're different every day. Now you do need to be aware that once you become a divemaster, you may never go back to your "real" life. And diving jobs do require real work and dedication to safety and customer service.
And that other dreaded word - responsibility. Divemaster jobs are easy to get and it's easy to be successful, but you do need to be able to do both physical work, like carrying heavy air tanks, and social work, like reassuring an anxious diver after stepping on the sharp spines of a sea urchin. Sounds like a pretty decent life because it is.
But you may be wondering about what you are doing on a daily basis. And many days are pretty similar in their basic layout, but very different when it comes to the details. So are you ready to experience a day in the life of a divemaster?Divemasters wake up bright and early. Throw on flip flops, swim suit, sun glasses, and a hat.
Then wander to their local dive shop - usually situated with a picturesque view of sandy beaches and clear water. Welcome to your office. In the morning you will probably have a cup of coffee, mingle with your buddies, fill some air tanks, layout equipment for guests, meet and greet the divers for the day, and help load the boat. It's work, but it doesn't seem like it because you're getting ready to go diving.
Once the divers are there, you load up the boat, and get ready to hang out with other people that are excited to explore the underwater realm. Everyone is in a good mood and ready for the day's adventure.
As you soak up some rays, drink cold water, and let the ocean spray you with it's cool mist, you also need to be able to reassure any anxious divers with a smile on your face. When the dive site gets near, you brief the divers on the day's dive, safety precaution, dive hazards, aquatic life sign language, and whatever else you want to share, like the school of dolphins at the site yesterday. After the briefing, you don your scuba gear, help others set up their gear, and jump into the warm waters of the tropical paradise you call home. As you bob on the surface with a smile on your face, you wonder what cool creatures you'll see on this dive.
When all the divers are gathered, you begin to lead the divers on the adventure of a lifetime, you are responsible for their well-being and that they don't get lost at sea. You lead the eager divers through coral caves, show them lobsters, eel, starfish, angelfish, grouper...
All the usual stuff. Always making sure to check that everyone has plenty of air and that they don't get lost in the endless blue waters.Once you are back on the boat, you make small talk with the divers during the surface interval.
Then brief your crew on the next dive and do it all over again. When you get back to the shop in the late afternoon, you're a bit tired. But put on a smile to answer questions for people going diving tomorrow, clean up SCUBA equipment, accept a generous tip from a pleased diver, fix any broken equipment, and carry the air tanks to get refilled. When the day is over. You head home to a good night's sleep and sweet dreams about the day's adventure. To locate commercial diving opportunities, including divemaster positions, look on the websites of SCUBA diving organizations, on cruise line websites, offshore oil drilling companies, and the websites of dive shops (obviously). Figure out a location where you want to work, then use a search engine to pinpoint dive shops in those locations.
Contact the employers and express your interest! It's not a bad life. In fact if you like the sun, the beach, diving, adventure, and you hate cubicles, bosses, and "Casual Friday," then you'll enjoy the best job in the world - a job as a divemaster.
